Hydrogen peroxide is water (H2O - two hydrogen molecules and one oxygen molecule) with an additional oxygen molecule attached. It is the extra oxygen molecule that is the working agent of hydrogen peroxide, specifically the release of it. Oxygen is a powerful antiseptic as well as a whitening agent. When hydrogen peroxide comes in contact with ANY organic substance, it will release its oxygen molecules. That is the cause of the foaming. When hydrogen peroxide is applied to a wound it is releasing its oxygen (the foam) that sanitizes the wound or cleans the mouth of destructive bacteria.
Aloe vera in tooth gels is used to cleanse and soothe teeth and gums, and is equally as effective as toothpaste in fighting cavities, according to the May/June 2009 issue of General Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry's clinical journal.
